As representatives of the Chemical Society of the Republic of Moldova, we express our deep concern and disappointment regarding the recent reform in the field of science, initiated by the Ministry of Education and Research (MEC). This reform, although designed with the intention of modernizing and streamlining scientific research in our country, generated a strong negative reaction among the academic community, including within our community of chemists. One of the most alarming aspects of the reform is the partial disappearance of some research institutes, following their absorption by universities. This measure, instead of promoting collaboration and optimization of resources, led to a significant decrease in the autonomy of research institutes and endangered the quality of scientific research.
